Reclaimed and antique oak floorboards can be distinguished from the parquet flooring, in that they are considerably wider and longer in dimension. Widths are on average between 150 mm and 200mm, sometimes wider, but never exceeding 300mm. Consignments generally feature mixed widths, and this is typical of a time when due to economic constraints, maximum use of the tree trunk widths was made. Reclaimed oak planks are highly appreciated for their robustness as well as for their historical authenticity in historic buildings. Brushed, waxed, oiled, varnished or simply left natural they bring charm and authenticity to interiors, and after such a long life elsewhere (usually several hundred years) they are assured to keep their natural patina for many years to come in their new location.
